..::2nd Weddings and Otakon::..

Mood: clean, showers are so nice! and perky
Song: "Even in Death" by Evanescence (this has been stuck in my head all day ,and it annoys me so much not b/c it's a bad song, which it isn't, but rather b/c I don't know all the lyrics yet. And the concert is on Sept. 13!)

Saturday-8: "Books & Movies"

Are you an avid reader, or would you prefer to see a movie instead? I read constantly (which reminds me, I left Pride and Prejudice at work..argh..wait *inserts foot in mouth* so much for a month without blacklisting. *stalks away*), but I do love movies

When you hear that a movie is coming out that you know is based on a book, do you read the book first or wait for the movie? Hmm, with Holes, I read the book years before, and was amazed the movie was true to the book. Also, I read the original Little Mermaid story by Hans Christian Anderson before I saw the movie (big fairy tale fanatic when I was little, I suppose I still am)and that came out when I was in Kindergarten. On the other hand, I borrowed A Walk to Remember after I saw the movie.

Have you ever liked a movie so much that you went out and purchased the book? Yes, A Walk to Remember by Nicholas Sparks

Are you a purist, and get upset/angry if a film adaptation does not stay 100% to the book? Hmm. sometimes, I know I would have been ticked if Holes hadn't stayed true to book, but otherwise not really.

Have you ever refused to see a movie because the casting of a major character was controversial (like Tom Cruise as Lestat or Renee Zellweger as Bridget Jones)? No! I don't usually pay attention to the actors, unless they really are awful or incredibly spectacular. (Can someone explain why those castings would be controversial?)

What is your favorite genre of book and movie? Drama and romance

Do you prefer to read one type of book, but watch another type of movie? Romance movies do tend to all have a similiar storyline, and the rags-to-richs, ugly/homely-to-beautiful stories irritate me very much so b/c only in My Big Fat Greek Wedding, was the heroine not especially attractive. Although in The Princess Diaries, she wasn't pretty before her transformation. Then again, she was obviously gorgeous after, which destroyed the believability of the movie. (not that the idea of one's grandmother turning out to be the queen of some foreign land realistic, either)

If you could choose one book to be made into a movie, which one would it be (or book series, if you're stuck)? Hmmm, The Hobbit would be nice. Or the Chronicles of Narnia series, if one was to put all their resources into it, and not have it look cheap like the Narnia movies I have seen.

Went to work a bit(!) early, so got in a couple volunteer hours. Turns out Stan didn't even know I volunteered before. Hrumph.

There was a wedding tonight, which honestly, was so much better than a normal party for a catered event (which usually involves some real idiots and too much drink and DJs that play the most random, get-stuck-in-my-head music).

But anyway, it was the bride's second wedding, and she wore a gorgeous lace dress with a halter neck that tied at the back and fell down in a lovely chiffon train. She also had her hair pinned up into a mass of curls and braids, crowned with a tiara. (I still would love to go into fashion design, but it's really not an option if I wish to stay in Maryland) The groom was apparently in the Marines, as was his father and another man, I believe, so they were in their dress uniforms. Leigh piped the bride and her parents on board, and it was actually a very simple ceremony. The most interesting event was during the vows, when the WaterTaxi, the Indefatigable, caught one of her poles in another ship's bowsprit, and completely bent one of the WaterTaxi's poles. Then after the priest announced the couple as man and wife, Leigh shot off the cannon, and immediately that song, it sounds somewhat like a song from Star Wars, blared out of the speakers on board. After the reception had started, some band started playing at the ampitheatre, and of course no one could ask them to quiet or go away, so they played on. Not only was it the most random song listing I've ever heard by a cover band, but the singers (a man and woman) couldn't carry a note to save their life! They were absolutely tone deaf! After the lady screeched through Faith Hill's "Breathe", she immediately dived into "Love Shack," of all songs. I fel so sorry for the couple. Imagine what they tell their kids: "They played "Love Shack" at our wedding!" Does no one see the irony in that?!?
